Cisco Global Protective Services (GPS) will monitor and assess risk on a daily basis. Kyle Christensen, GPS Manager, will be the direct point of contact for all emergencies / escalation issues, and will manage the event safety and security process.

From the event start to the end, there will be a first aid office staffed with an EMT

Procedure:

• The EMT will respond immediately to requests for medical assistance
• The EMT will notify Kyle Christensen regarding the action taken
• The EMT will make the determination if Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) or Ambulance response is required
• Cisco Event personnel will report all medical emergencies to the EMT and in no descending order: Kyle Christensen, SDCC security staff and/or the Cisco Event Manager.
• Cisco representatives will facilitate the retrieval of emergency contact information for the person(s) requiring an Ambulance service
• Kyle Christensen will assist the injured and/or ill individual with notification of their respective emergency contact person(s)
• Kyle Christensen will brief Cisco Event Manager regarding the incident
• Injuries / medical incidents involving Cisco Employees will be reported to Cisco Human Resources / Employee Relations for appropriate notification protocol

DHS Crisis Response Program

United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS):

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recently revised their system by removing the color coded threat level identifiers and incorporating a notification process when information regarding a specific threat exists, also known as NTAS.

Response to DHS Threat Notifications:

This process will follow the rules and procedures of the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS is the internationally adopted process for assessing, responding and managing critical or acute emergency situations or crises. Upon receipt of a notification from DHS, Kyle Christensen will notify members of the Event Crisis Management Team (ECMT). The team consists of:

Emergency Evacuation Protocol

If you have an emergency at any time during move in, event or move out please contact the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s (SDCCC) Security Department by dialing ext. 5911 from any of the white courtesy phones located throughout the facility or by calling 619-525-5911 from a cell phone. SDCCC Security is staffed seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day, 365 days per year (holidays included).

Convention Center Assembly Areas

Cityside—Staff and guests exiting the building through the Grand Lobby doors (Lobby A-C), Corporation Offices/Boardroom, Tides or upper level doors adjacent to the original Food and Beverage offices should assemble on the Marriott Circle (below the waterfall). Staff and guests exiting the Grand Lobby (Halls D-H), Administration Offices on the mezzanine level, and expansion Food and Beverage offices/kitchen should assemble in the Plaza Park (8th Avenue & Harbor Drive).

Fire

In case of fire, notify the Convention Center Security Base at 5911 immediately from any house phone OR by calling 619-525-5911 from a cell phone.

• Provide concise, accurate information about the location and severity of fire.
• Fight minor fires (waste basket, etc.) with nearest fire extinguisher. If possible, have a second person with another fire extinguisher back you up. Keep yourself between the fire and the exit. Do not let the fire get between you and the exit
• Before opening a door, always touch the surface and feel for heat. Never open a door that is hot to the touch.
• If evacuation from the upper level becomes necessary, never use an escalator or elevator.
• Move far enough away from the building to avoid flying debris and broken glass.
• Cease all but emergency radio transmissions and keep your radio, cell phone and/or Nextel with you at all times during evacuation.
• Move quickly to your assembly area and stay with other members of your department to expedite a headcount. SDCCC Security Representatives will be present along the evacuation route and at the assembly evacuation areas to assist.

Bomb Threat

Immediately notify Convention Center Security!

• Do not use cellular telephones or portable radios to communicate.
• Remain calm and use the bomb threat checklist on this page to gather as much information as possible.
• Remain at your work area. Do not begin evacuation unless directed by SDCCC Security or a Supervisor.
• If evacuation becomes necessary, be prepared to calmly assist guests and fellow employees.
• Be especially alert for disabled or handicapped guests or employees who may need assistance to safely exit the building.

Earthquake

During an Earthquake…Remember—Duck, Cover and Hold

• Duck- Drop to the floor (preferably in a protected place away from windows) before the shaking knocks you down.
• Cover- Protect yourself by taking cover under a desk or table. You have only as much time as it takes an object to break away and fall from the ceiling.
• Hold- Hang on, the shaking may last from a few seconds to a minute, or even more, and the tremors can be violent enough to toss around furniture.

If outdoors, quickly move away from buildings, poles and overhead wires to avoid falling objects.

• After the shaking stops, remain calm and collect your thoughts. Remember, more people are injured in panicked flight than during the earthquake itself.
• Be alert to aftershocks which can cause additional injuries and damage.
• Locate the closest fire extinguisher and be prepared to fight secondary fires, a common hazard in earthquakes. Render aid, and assist with the rescue of persons trapped by building debris or furniture.
• Check communications and make sure telephone handsets are on their cradles, but use the telephones for emergency purposes only.
• Use your radio, cell phone and/or Nextel for emergency communication only, but continue to monitor the radio for instructions. Unless the building is obviously unsafe, remain in place until you receive instructions from a Supervisor or SDCCC Security.

Extreme Weather

• Generally, weather-related problems are preceded by a warning, allowing ample time for protection of equipment and evacuation of employees and guests.
• In the event of an unexpected, weather-related emergency, immediately notify SDCCC Security and proceed according to instructions.
• Be alert to structural damage or weakened portions of a building that may pose a safety hazard.
• Unless ordered to evacuate the area, or if you are placed in danger by remaining, stay at your assigned outdoor area to assist in the recovery process.

Important Note: In case of an emergency inside the San Diego Convention Center, please DO NOT call 911 by mobile or other phone. Please call 619-525-5000 for the San Diego Convention Center. Emergencies inside a large facility like the San Diego Convention Center require careful coordination in order to get emergency service providers to the scenes of emergencies as quickly as possible.
